April Update (Posted 4/14/2022):

We have come back from our scouting outing at Carolina Crossroads.  Please note, the cut off for holding our specific sites is May 25th After that, it will be whatever sites are available.

For those checking in on Thursday, we can either have appetizers at the campground, or go to a local’s favorite restaurant called Haggertys.  They are open M-F 1 pm - 9 pm  and Sat 4:30 pm - 9 pm.  Not many other locals restaurants, but Welden, NC does have standard eateries.

  • Scavanger hunt:  Beginning with Friday night, passing out the game, and awarding Saturday evening the prizes.
  • Corn hole boards on site from Thursday afternoon until Sunday morning
  • Card games will be set up for open play from Thursday afternoon until Saturday bedtime

  • Friday afternoon / evening
    • Potluck at the camp site gazebo.  We will provide a meat, with others bringing sides and desserts.  I can make a spreadsheet to help with duplication as soon as we get a good head count.
    • We will provide a welcome bag with information regarding local activities to do on your own.  One of the local shops is also giving a goodie bag with some items from their shops.

  • Saturday on the lake  - here are the options
    • We can rent 1 to 2 24 ft pontoons from Eaton Ferry Marina.  They hold 10 people comfortably.  There marina is 26 miles from our campground and takes approx. 35 mins to get there.  The time is from approx. 8:30 to 3:30 (we make appointments for a 7 hour day trip).  I will need to make the reservation asap as they are already booked into end of May.  I have to pay in full, but can get a full refund up to 10 days out.  That price is $380 per boat plus fuel fill up which we estimate will be $120 to $150.  That makes the price for the day excursion approximately $50 per person.  We will bring snacks and drinks on board.
    • If not that many people are interested, we can bring our 16 ft pontoon boat from home.  It fits 6 people comfortably – so 2 couples with us.  We would ask for a contribution for fuel.

**  this could be a good place for a co-host if someone doesn’t want to make a boat trip, then they could assist with other activities above or organizing a hike/bike on the local trails, a distillery tasting, or outlet shopping.  All are in the welcome bag we will have for you.

    • Sat night dinner at Haggerty’s – the locals favorite restaurant.  They have outside seating to more than accommodate our group.  I will need to make that reservation by June 5th Thinking about 6 pm.  Our co-host could assist with logistics here if we get back from the boat a little late.

  • Sunday breakfast at the campsite gazebo or reserved room at campground.

Your Hosts

Lynn Nelson & Wayne Dancause
