Third And Final Call for Mr. B’s Music Spectacular

Hey Dogwood, this is the third and final call for Mr. B’s Spring Music Spectacular, May 1- 3 down in Woodford Va. We have 9 campers (16 club members) signed up so far including:

Buelow, Herbert, Sohles, Cummings, Dudziak,

Brooks, Greenwood, Spain, & Warren

If you are just deciding to attend the Bluegrass rally (Yeah!!!), please call Ms. Billie Sue Goff at 757-660-8904 to make your reservation – be sure to tell her you are with Dogwood.  The rally fee is $20 per person.  Please mail your rally fee check to Jean Herbert, 3216 Cavalry Ridge Ct., Fredericksburg VA 22408.  The check should be made out to Jean Herbert, not Dogwood. Like last year, it will be held at Mr. B’s Event Park in Woodford, VA – on the west side of old Route 1 between Thornburg (Exit #118) and Ladysmith (Exit #110) off I-95.

Also, if you have a canopy we could borrow, please consider bringing it. Jean and I have one big canopy (13’x13’) but we could use at least two more – any size.

On Wednesday evening (April 30th for you early arrivers) we are doing a potluck supper; Jean and I will bring fried chicken for all. Feel free to bring an appetizer, sides, or dessert to go with it.

Brunches for the next three days will be as follows:

Thursday morning, 9:30 am - Tequila Sunrises, with

·      Quiches

·      Sausage Links

·      Potatoes & onions

·      Fruit bowl, & Juices

Friday morning, 9:30 am – Bloody Marys, with

·      Pancakes

·      Bacon, syrup, butter

·      Eggs to order

·      Fruit & Juices

Saturday morning, 9:30 am – (Tres de Mayo instead of Cinco de Mayo) – Margaritas

·      Make your own breakfast burrito with

·      Tortillas

·      Scrambled eggs

·      Sausage

·      Cheese, sour cream, salsa, and guacamole

·      Queso

·      Onions & peppers

·      Spanish rice

·      Juices & Fruit

We have two couples who are considering providing a simple dinner for us on two nights.  Otherwise, since there is no dinner break in the music, you may provide your own dinner, purchase dinner from Mr. B’s café, or join the group for a simple dinner back at our campsite (if those plans pan out). Folks will be coming and going to the stage area all day, every day.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW:

R Bring at least four chairs, two to set up and leave in front of the stage for the weekend and two for the dining tables at our campsite.

R To each meal, please bring your own plates, napkins, utensils, and drinks (except for juice and the alcohol offering). For folks new to Dogwood, this is a common practice for our rallies.

See you there!

Jean & Ed

Hello Dogwood!

This is first call for the upcoming Mr. B’s Bluegrass Spring Music Spectacular on May 1-3, 2025. Like last year, it will be held at Mr. B’s Event Park in Woodford, VA – on the west side of old Route 1 just north of the Ladysmith exit off I-95. Ms. Billie Sue Goff (Event Director and good friend of the club) has set aside 10 spots for us – all together. If more sign up, that’s fine, you just might not be right next door to us. But that’s OK because the campground is easily crossed in minutes from wherever you get parked. The directions and signup sheet will be out on the Dogwood Blog site.   We have two families signed so far: us (the Herberts) and the Buelows.

Jean and I are hosting again for the brunch, but we will need a co-host. The music schedule, like last year, is: Music Starts at noon and goes without a dinner break to 10 pm. So, we are starting to put together the brunch plans. At this point, on Wednesday evening (for you early arrivers) we will be doing a potluck supper; Jean and I will bring fried chicken for all. Feel free to bring an appetizer, sides or dessert to go with it.

Brunches for the next three days will start around 9:30 am and will include all the good food and drinks we are known for. So, if you haven’t already, please call Ms. Billie Sue Goff at 757-660-8904 and get your reservation in for the festival. See the Dogwood Blog Site for details, show list and directions – we hope to see you there!

Dogwood Rally at Breaks Interstate Park

Update on Breaks Interstate Rally

 – July 7 – 11

Based on the information we’ve gathered thus far:

The park is located on the Virginia/Kentucky border. The park encompasses 4,500 acres of greenwood lands and mountain scenery, including the "Grand Canyon of the South". History: The name "Breaks" is derived from the break in Pine Mountain created by the Russell Fork of the Big Sandy River as it carved a 1,000-foot gorge on its way to the Ohio River. The Russell Fork River has carved the largest canyon east of the Mississippi. Its craggy untouched beauty reaches more than five miles long and 1,600 feet deep.

Park features: Olympic pool, a lake with paddleboats and fishing, hiking trails, picnic areas, camping areas, a visitor center, a gift shop, playground equipment, ziplining, cabins, a restaurant and amphitheater. Numerous events scheduled.

Activities include but not limited to:

Spend the day on the tranquil waters of the Laurel Lake in canoes, kayaks, or paddle boats.

Many biking and hiking trails

3 different large areas of fishing

For those less active, there is a 3-hour scenic drive up the gorge for breathtaking views of the area.

And so many other area offering of different fun activities -- you will not be bored!!

As for group activities – we can certainly plan on a potluck – cigar/bourbon night – fun gaming or other ideas --

As of right now – Campground C only has 2 spaces left to accommodate our size rigs.  However, the other areas have multiple choices that will handle up to a 45 ft Class A.

We will give further instructions as to how to avoid the mountain passes and curvy roads however – this is a very popular vacation destination for all so  the roads are safe for our size vehicles.  Remember  YOU MUST GO ONTO THEIR SITE -  BREAKSPARK.COM TO MAKE INDIVIDUAL RESERVATIONS.  Even tho‘ this is a rally for us – they do not accept such – so we are considering this a “gathering” of like-minded friends to enjoy the area.

Hello Dogwood! Breaks Interstate Park is located on the Virginia/Kentucky boarder and called the Grand Canyon of the South because of the gorge it is located in. Access coming north or south is off I-81. For detailed instructions, check your GPS or see their website:  BreaksPark.com. Please visit the website and read the Things To Know section. If you have a problem driving in the mountains, this might not be for you. From the website: The Breaks Interstate Park is located in a remote area. While the Breaks is surrounded by rugged beauty, this can make getting here a challenge. All roads leading to the Breaks are mountainous, narrow, and curvy. Please plan accordingly. If this is your first trip to the Breaks, we recommend you plan on arriving before dark.

Your Rally hosts are Dan Brooks and Lynn Nelson

Rally Fee will be $25 per person.  Payment to be made at rally.

The Rally dates are July 8-12, 2025.

There are several local points of interest. Here are a few of them:

Drive through the gorge

Zip lines

Elk Tours

Boating

Hiking

And there is a Restaurant on site

We recommend you visit their website for more options.

Additional plans will be shared at a later date, but we will have a potluck on one day.  Please plan to bring your favorite dish to share. Oh, and don't expect to run to a store – we recommend you stock up before coming. We won't have a shelter for our meetings; we will be under a canopy located near the hosts rigs.  Please plan on bringing your own plates, flatware, drinks, chairs, and maybe a table.

We recommend make your reservations NOW. They can be made on their website.  Your hosts are in Loop C, sites 73 and 74. The campground is currently closed for the winter so we cannot reserve for the group. Once it is open, we will contact them for additional things we might be able to set up and provide you more information.
